grumpytea: (Books!)
In continuing preparation for the Great and Somewhat Cataclysmic Move Across the Country, I am cataloging all of my books and DVDs. The DVDs are done, they are fit quite nicely into an excel spreadsheet...er...a GoogleDocs spreadsheet.

The books, on the other hand...I think that there are a few too many to use a spreadsheet successfully anymore. I have run out of shelf space in my upstairs room (this room contains books, clothes, and two chairs), and am mostly out in the basement. And...I have a lot of shelf space...So I've begun searching for a good, cheap (preferably free) cataloging program. I'd prefer something offline, since as neat as Library Thing looks, I'd really like something that I can access sans Internet connection (especially if I'll be paying for it).

Does anyone have an experience with any freeware/shareware/not super expensive cataloging tools, or experience with LT?

Hello Dreamwidth! I'm GrumpyTea, also known as Brooke.

Why GrumpyTea? Last year, in my final year of undergrad, I lived in a (somewhat) run-down dorm called Pfieffer. As part of a community-building exercise, res life covered the hall's main corkboard with plastic and taped us words written on construction paper in a blatant rip-off of those magnetic word games. Of course, my (somewhat) delinquent friends (along with half the dorm) either created inappropriate (but generally hilarious) phrases or just up and stole the words. One day when I came back to my room, I discovered that my friend Ruby had put the words 'grumpy' and 'tea' on my marker board. I'm not really all that grumpy (unless I'm sleepy and haven't had any coffee) and don't drink all that much tea, but I did end up adopting it as an online alias all the same. Probably because I think Ruby's spiffy.

I'm also known as MystyAngel, which has been my handle for quite some time, but I don't think it still holds up to the challenge. I was much younger, more idealistic, and retrospectively ridiculous when I created it, after all. To be fair, I'm still sporadically idealistic and pretty damn ridiculous.
